The Demoiselles Revisited… and celebrated
Julien Friedler has been invited to participate to the "The Demoiselles Revisited" art show, organized by Francis Naumann at his gallery in New-York. It celebrates the 100th birthday of Picasso’s famous work : Les Demoiselles d’Avignon.

I remember this artwork… very well… I was studying art history at University and writing about this image, and the recursive function of the negative representation of the female form and the ways in which these representations serve to strengthen mysoginistic cultural tendencies…
however… I love the girls with the fingers… and the vagina dentata… har har

Seeing that the subversive charge of Picasso’s Demoiselles d’Avignon has been lost, I wanted to find back its initial power.
Nowadays, since the woman and her representation is problematic, I thought it was important to come back to the origins.
Eventually, a last mystery : to who (or what) are they doing a finger ?
